"Meet The Robinsons" Premiere!

Disney Meets The Future At El Capitan

By

Disney brought the future to El Capitan with the world premiere of the new animated movie, "Meet The Robinsons."  The premiere happened March 25, 2007 on a bright Sunday afternoon.  Thousands of movie fans lined up across the street to get a glimpse of stars arriving on the red carpet.

Stars from the film included Angela Bassett ("Mildred"), Daniel Hansen ("Lewis"), Nicole Sullivan ("Franny"), Tom Selleck ("Cornelius"), Laurie Metcalf ("Dr. Krunklehorn"), Wesley Singerman ("Wilbur Robinson"), Matthew Josten ("Goob"), Grace Rolek and Jordan Orr (who provided additional voices), screenwriters Jon Bernstein and Michelle Bochner, composer Danny Elfman, "Meet The Robinsons" creator William Joyce, and director Stephen Anderson.  Guest stars included Bridget Fonda, singer Rob Thomas, Jodie Foster, singer Adrienne Bailon, Becky and Camilla "Milly" Rosso, Courtney Taylor Burness, Disney Channel "Movie Surfers" Jeryn Mays & Tessa Ludlow, Bailee Madison, Slade Pierce, Imagineer Marty Sklar, singer Rufus Wainwright, Mitchel Musso, Mickey Dolenz, The Jonas Brothers, Mikaila Baumel, Paul Butcher, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger, Walt Disney Studio President Dick Cook and Walt Disney Animation President Ed Catmull.

The movie is Disney's latest attempt to use digital animation to tell its stories.  The reaction by both audiences and critics has been mixed.  Last year's "The Wild" bombed, and 2005's "Chicken Little" did good business, but it wasn't regarded as a good film.  That may change with "Meet The Robinsons," which was apparently revamped after the CEO of Pixar and Disney Animation, John Lasseter, sat down with director Stephen Anderson over the movie's story direction.  According to early reports, the film works well.

"Meet The Robinsons," like "Chicken Little," is being presented in 3-D.  Using the Real-D process, named Disney Digital 3-D for this release and probably future ones, Disney is hoping that the combination of digital animation, digital projection and the "wow factor" of 3-D will bring audiences to the movies.

"Meet The Robinsons" opens in selected theatres March 30, 2007.  It plays at El Capitan March 30-May 20, 2007.
